📌 Overview
The National Trade Policy (NTP) of Zambia outlines the government’s strategy to promote a competitive trade sector that supports industrialization, economic diversification, and sustainable development. It aligns with Zambia’s Vision 2030: “To become a prosperous middle-income nation by 2030.”
🎯 Policy Vision
“Make Zambia a net exporter of value-added goods and services through competitiveness at the domestic, regional and global level.”
🌍 Global, Regional & National Context
- Global: Tariffs are declining globally, but non-tariff barriers are rising. Zambia is adapting to this by engaging in multilateral negotiations and promoting fair trade.
- Regional: Zambia is a member of COMESA, SADC, and the Tripartite FTA. These arrangements open regional markets, but also require coordinated negotiation and strategy.
- National: Trade is dominated by copper exports. Non-Traditional Exports (NTEs) are growing but need diversification. Services now contribute over 50% of GDP.
